Module 4: Product Techniques – Tags and Job Aids

Before getting into the training videos, I want to introduce you to a training tool we’ve used at Uncle Ray’s for a long time.  We call the tool Tags and Aids and it’s an example of how we’re doing everything we can think of to make your training as effective and easy as we can.

Here’s how they work.  As an example, in the training video for Making Blasts, we use the following tags:

  • “Around – Around and Down”Tags
  • “Count Your Rings”
  • “Stop It – Drop It”

Tag the Task

Tags are short phrases identifying key steps in the process of making the various treats. During all of our video demonstrations, I’ll show how to do the task and I’ll tag the task by saying it out loud, “Stop It – Drop It.”

During your live-time practice on the machines, I want you to do the same thing … tag the tasks by saying them out loud.  You may feel a bit self-conscious, but from a learning perspective it’s so important that you do it, say the tags out loud. I’m sure you’ll quickly get used to the routine since we’ll all be doing the tagging during the practice phase of our learning.

Tag the Task has proven to be an effective quick-learn method that supports comprehension and retention.

Job Aid Signs

You’ll soon notice that we have placed these tags on all of the machines and workstations. They are there for you.

Once you’ve completed your training and are live on stage, the visual job aids are near-by to help you remember all the key steps especially on a busy or particularly stressful day. We encourage you to use them and make them work for you.
